"J.G. & The Dog" are John G. Hartley and Apollo. I write the songs, produce them with the help of some world class Nashville bluegrass friends and Apollo typically naps through the writing process (with the . ocassional howl along if he's feeling it ... though Opra, not Opry, seems to be his favorite genre).

Bluegrass found me through a song I wrote titled "The Train Keeps Rolling".and a chance meeting with Bluegrass fiddle playin' BGV singin' Tammy King at a country music demo session.  When I wrote the train song, I shared it with a friend of mine who told me it was Bluegrass. Well I'd never done Bluegrass! So I reached out to Tammy to see if she knew any Bluegrass folks I might be able to work with, and with her help (and a bunch of other folks) I've produced a doughnut box full of Contemporary Bluegrass songs about life, love, and finding the better angels of our nature.

 

J.G. & The Dog's first release, "The Dream", is about the steel drivin' banjo jammin' Richard Bailey. Yep ... had a dream about Richard, wrote this song about it, and he was gracious enough to come along for the ride! The good news is Tammy King, Mark Fain, Mike Fleming, and Justin Moses also joined us.
